Abstract

In this paper we present a survey of the literature on job and worker reallocation in the transition countries of Central and Eastern European (CEE), Russia and Ukraine.
First, we describe the current state of knowledge and the labour market conditions that have characterised the transition process. We also discuss what is known about the skill dimensions of restructuring and reallocation.
Secondly, we study the relationship between changes in employment and changes in sales as well as changes in wages and changes in labour productivity using the
Amadeus database over the period 1996-2001. We aim to study how firms adjust wages and employment to changes in market conditions.
